Bitcoin ($BTC) is a religion. First, in order to achieve mass adoption, it shouldn't be affiliated with any political beliefs and shouldn't comment on anything beyond its scope. Second, money itself is a shared imagination, and Bitcoin literally derives all of its properties from our collective beliefs. Bitcoin's competition by the religion analogy is Nocoinery and Multicoinery. Nocoinery is the idea that digital assets don’t have value or can never be money, and Multicoinery is the idea that we can constantly come up with new cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin as a religion faces a few problems currently. For instance, vocal minorities are loading up Bitcoin with political statements that are not necessary to distinguish itself from other religions, and it’s driving out people who potentially agree with Bitcoin’s real message but disagree with these statements. Bitcoin should be apolitical and appeal to the center as much as possible while fighting its competition in order to reach mass adoption. There are many similarities between Bitcoin and the universalizing religions, and much for Bitcoin to learn from them. It indicates that we should go out of our way to talk to Nocoiners and Precoiners instead of Multicoiners. When talking about Bitcoin, we want to be open and apolitical and instead emphasize Bitcoin’s core message: no more debasement of our money and monetary freedom for everyone — no matter what else you believe in.
