In order to increase the number of beneficiaries of blockchain solutions, we need to reduce inefficiencies in blockchain compared to non-blockchain technologies. As Vitalik Buterin says, βwith efficiency losses this high, only applications that really needed one or more of these properties will be willing to use public blockchains.β   There are three ways of user adoption:
- Incremental improvements to the technology enable blockchain to serve more people. Improving properties like scalability decrease inefficiencies, allowing us to serve more users for more use cases.
- Users vary in inefficiency tolerance. Those with high tolerance use it for speculation use cases while those with low tolerance use it for real life practical use cases.
- As more protocols get developed (and likely with different levels of decentralization and efficiency), more users will adoption blockchain-based technologies.
