Prices attract more users and investors to the digital asset industry than anything else, but some of the most common metrics for measuring the success and importance of these projects and assets are imperfect, explains Michael Casey. Crypto-to-fiat exchange rate and market cap, for example, are superficially reliable and sound but fundamentally problematic for reasons of fiat-bench-marking, new asset creation, and others. Metrics should be bench-marked to bitcoin and include a variety of salient data feeds, explains Casey, to provide a more robust, holistic picture of how projects perform and how much a given asset is worth.
