Three years ago, blockchain was the hottest buzzword in tech, finance, and even some circles of law and politics. But corporations are now more circumspect about their use of the technology, explains Ben Dickson. Unlike the feverish and outlandish pitches that Dickson and many other media personalities saw and received during years of manic blockchain fever, the sentiment seems to have cooled significantly to the point that when Dickson followed up years later with many of the companies initially interested in blockchains returned no response. Part of the sentiment change might come from cryptocurrency prices crashing for over a year straight. And Dickson notes that thousands of cryptographers and software developers continue to interact with blockchains, but the fever of 2015 and 2016 has subsided considerably.
