Amazon files to patent a proof-of-work system

Amazon has filed yesterday to patent a cryptographic protocol that uses a proof-of-work system. Proof of Work (PoW) is a security measure used by some dominant blockchains, like Bitcoin ($BTC), as a consensus algorithm to confirm transactions and produce new blocks while preventing spam or denial of service attacks on the network. Amazon's filing does not mention a native token or cryptocurrency as part of the network's design.
