🚔 22-year-old gets 2 years in jail for illegally selling hundreds of thousands in Bitcoin

22 year-old Jacob Burrell Campos has been given a two year sentence for failing to register with the Department of the Treasury and lack of anti-money laundering (AML) techniques for his personal Bitcoin ($BTC) sales scheme. Burrell operated through peer-to-peer service LocalBitcoins to contact and exchange Bitcoins often purchased through regulated domestic or Hong Kong exchanges. “Today’s sentencing of Burrell is a reminder to those illegal and unlicensed money transmitters that the laws and rules apply to crypto currency dealings," said Homeland Securities' David Shaw, "just as they do to other types of financial transactions."
