Role of Miners on the Nervos Network
1. Securing the Network
Miners on Nervos Network play a central role in securing the blockchain. Nervos uses a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, meaning miners solve cryptographic puzzles to validate transactions and add new blocks to the Common Knowledge Base (CKB), Nervos' Layer 1 blockchain

2. Transaction Processing
Miners are responsible for verifying and processing transactions. They bundle valid transactions into blocks, which are then added to the blockchain after successful mining

3. Earning Rewards
- Block Rewards: Miners receive "base issuance" CKB tokens as a reward for each block they successfully mine. This reward is similar to Bitcoin's issuance schedule and undergoes halving over time1.
- Secondary Issuance: In addition to base issuance, miners also receive a portion of "secondary issuance"—a unique aspect of Nervos' incentive model. The distribution of secondary issuance depends on several factors, including how many CKBytes are being used as state, stored in the Nervos DAO, or held as liquid, but a substantial part consistently goes to miners4.
- Transaction Fees: Miners collect transaction fees from users processing transactions on the network2.
4. Network Optimization and Difficulty Adjustment
Nervos Network implements a custom protocol (NC-MAX) that automatically adjusts mining difficulty about every four hours in response to network conditions. This helps optimize block times and reduces the possibility of block reorganizations, stabilizing the network for both users and miners
