Two years ago, I posted my “95 theses” for crypto in 2018.
It was partly a rage post sparked by the insanity of Q4’17. It was also a good way to organize my thoughts for how to play the coming crash in most of the bubbly projects we watched raise gobs of money during the bubble.
It ended up being my most popular post of all time. So I decided to do it again last year. The only problem was that I got shotgunned by Arjun Balaji (now an investor at crypto fund, Paradigm), who posted his own very good rendition the day before I was set to post mine. His got all the social juice, and as a result, my follow-up had about 5% the engagement of the previous year’s. That made me sad, and I still hate Arjun for it. (Half kidding.)
So here we are at the end of 2019, and I’m posting a couple of weeks early with the hope we’ll win this year’s pundit publishing cycle. This is the crypto twitterati equivalent of “who will be the first to have a Christmas sale in October.” (I imagine next year, someone will write a prediction piece that comes out around Thanksgiving. The year after that Halloween, Etc.)
In all seriousness, though, it’s good to get this out before the holidays, because it’s a beast. When I started it this past weekend, my team thought I was nuts. “120 theses for 2020? Not possible. (Or smart.)”
But we’re publishing the mammoth in full today, and then marketing six 20 section chunks for you beautiful people over the last six business days before the holidays. This is not just for our benefit, but for yours, as this year’s edition has TONS of links and additional reads to comb through over the holidays that could give you a solid foundation when approaching the next year (and decade) of crypto.
Consider this Messari’s research foundation for 2020. We’ll build around it and hope it proves a solid foundation for you as well. It’s a lot for one sitting, a mini- encyclopedia almost. Come back to it when you think you need it.
Mostly, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I hated writing it.
